Edition Madsen Band - Sebastian Madsen
Madsen.
So you valued readers, would like to save your relationship. You have lost yourselves in the confusions and turmoil of everyday life. Moreover, you know how to spell the word LOVE and think that this simply cannot be the end of the world. Your problem: you have difficulties in finding the right words. Everything’s in your head, but you miss the capability to let those things that are locked up in your head melt on your tongue. Don’t worry, you are not the only one. Therefore, amongst other things, there is art. Here’s my advice: let Madsen say it for you. Bring the CD with you when you go to your lover and put it on. Hold your partner’s hand, skip to "Immer mehr" (More and more), and for fuck’s sake hold your partner’s damn hand and try to put on a somewhat sensitive look. "We loose ourselves more and more and more. (...). And I try to hold on to you, I’ll never let go of you again, cause that’s what we are used to." This song gives you the chance to understand everything within 3,16 minutes. Madsen stems from the Wenland district (Famous for the Castor transports of radioactive waste) in which people go to demonstrate. An area in which playing music is not a hobby, but rather an escape. Maybe that’s the reason underlying the desperate hunger for life that is expressed by every line Sebastian Madsen sings. The adolescent anger of the young Lowtzow’s (Tocotronic) paired up with a great sense for harmonic vocals. Wonderful! The best thing about Madsen’s lyrics is that Sebastian Madsen has succeeded in finding his own language. His lyrics are written in a rather Anglo-American way, meaning that he manages to express very precise concerns by employing rather unprecise lyrics. Those concerns he addresses are so big that there will most probably never exist adequate vocabulary for them. Me, you, we, the world, heaven, hell, life and everything else, back and forth in a single line. This is no small challenge! You want to gratefully get down on your knees - finally you can listen to a band again that has been angry more than four times in their lives (and by angry I don’t mean receiving a C in a math test, because I reckon they would have been more than happy with a C) And: May I curse? May I curse??? Let me curse just one time: Fuck*** hell, this music kicks arse! God, this German-tongue-muzak at the moment is really dreadful and annoying. “Blablabla, I did not get laid this weekend...lalalala, and now: the slow part! Now, that was due!“ "This is straight to the point and really rocks!" if one likes to describe the music that penetrates you in the 37,40 minutes. Punk, Rock and Hamburg School, let’s just put it that way, those not being the worst genres of music in the world... Madsen’s success is not by chance like so many bands hope for, but first and foresmost deserved and second their destiny. I am thrilled by the best Debut-Record ever since I have started writing about music. I wish the band all the best for the near future. If I had to go on tour today, there would be no other band that I would prefer to take with me. There is already a rumour. They are nice people and know how to drink - a good but dangerous combination. It would be great! Thees Uhlmann, November 2004. |
